Pebble is no More

By | December 7, 2016

Pebble has announced that it will be acquired by Fitbit, which is fine.  I mean good for them!  However, they will be completely shut down, halting all hardware production and support.  I have used a Pebble for about 1 1/2 years now and have (had) a Pebble Time 2 on order.  I know I can’t be alone in thinking that this is a giant “screw you” to all of their supporters!

Excerpt from Kickstarter Update:

Active Pebble watches will work normally for now. Functionality or service quality may be reduced down the road. We don’t expect to release regular software updates or new Pebble features. Our new mission will focus on bringing Pebble’s unique wearables expertise to future Fitbit products. We’re also working to reduce Pebble’s reliance on cloud services, letting all Pebble models stay active long into the future.

I love how they state, in bold no less, that their current devices will work for now at least!  It looks like it will be back to Android Wear (and their horrible battery life) for me!

For those who are interested, the full update is included on the next page.
